BOOM

Boom is a four letter word.

"No boom today.  Boom tomorrow.  There's always a boom tomorrow" -- Susan Ivanova, Babylon 5

It seems like Blogger has finally recovered from their outage since yesterday.  The problem is somewhat typical - they went to do an upgrade that didn't quite work, and in trying to recover they ran into other problems that didn't quite work either.  Boom.  This is on my mind a lot today since I'm preparing to upgrade some systems myself over the weekend - and I'm a little anxious about my potential for causing a "boom".  Do I expect a problem?  No - I've upgraded this system before, and I have a pretty good idea what is going to happen.  But I'm always anxious when I have to disturb a system that is working perfectly well, no matter what the justification for doing so.  Do I know what I'll do in the event I do have a boom?  I hope I do, anyway.  But that is what part of being a professional is - being able to anticipate, prepare, and adjust on the fly if necessary.

Here's to never having the boom today, but always preparing for the boom tomorrow.
